Why did you become a Physiotherapist?

When I was a teenager, I was heavily involved in various competitive sports. A physiotherapist helped me overcome knee pain and allowed me to continue excelling in all the sports I loved. I was struck by the importance of this type of medical practitioner, who plays such a crucial role in helping people engage in sports and activities when they are limited by pain or injury. I wanted to be part of that journey for others because I believe staying active, in whatever way possible, is a valuable component of our life journey—especially as we get older.

Do you have an area of special interest?

In rehabilitation, I focus on the entire body, recognizing that joints don’t function in isolation. I connect all parts through postural alignment, stability, balance, and movement control. My approach incorporates these elements into recovery, informed by my background in biomechanics and neurological rehab. This has sparked my interest in vestibular and concussion rehabilitation. I also use dry needling when appropriate.

How does movement impact your life?

I believe movement is medicine! I stay active through activities like ice hockey, cycling, weightlifting, kickboxing, yoga, hiking, camping, kayaking, skiing, and anything outdoors. A highlight of my career was being Captain of the 2000-2003 USA Women’s National Skydiving Team and winning two World Championship titles, which taught me the value of dedication and perseverance. I’m inspired by people who, even at advanced ages, continue to perform at high levels. It shows that with proper care, age is just a number, and staying active is possible throughout life. I hope to remain as active as I age, and my passion is to help others do the same.

What does a great Physiotherapy experience look like to you?

I believe a great physiotherapy experience means that a patient feels comfortable and knows that all aspects of their concerns are heard and understood, their goals are incorporated into a realistic treatment plan they can adhere to, and the assessment findings and rationale for treatments are clearly communicated. A physiotherapist should support the client through the recovery process by considering their individual personal factors and re-evaluating on an ongoing basis, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all protocols, while also following current science and evidence-based techniques
