A clear understanding of your injury
We will take time to hear your story to understand what happened asking questions to come up with a diagnosis:
- Was it a sudden injury or did it come on over time? Was it so painful that you had to stop or were you able to continue the activity?
Or maybe we are seeing you further into your injury journey and you have already had surgery to repair the torn structure.
A treatment plan that is specific to your skill level and activity demands
Exercise is a core component in the process of recovering from sport-related injury and surgery. Range of motion, joint function, muscle coordination and muscle strength all must be regained. A customized exercise program is an integral part of returning to sport and restoring function.
Depending on the demands of your sport, you are suspectable to different injuries. Your physiotherapist needs to understand the requirements and functions of your specific sport. For instance, a treatment program from a knee injury of a downhill skier that involved a ligament will obviously vary greatly from a knee injury of a runner with an overuse injury. A return to sport program will vary considerably for our athletes returning to the green circle runs vs the double black diamond runs or a 5km sprint versus a marathon.
Collaborative communication, coaching and goal setting
An integrated team approach is imperative to return you to sport in a timely and safe manner. We work closely with all members of your rehab team. Including Sports medicine doctors and surgeons, personal fitness trainers and coaches.
