Getting injured at work can be a confusing experience.
We’re here to make the process easier by explaining how treatment works under Alberta’s Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB).
You do not need to see a doctor before your first physiotherapy appointment — your physiotherapist can assess your injury, start your claim, and submit all required paperwork.
If your doctor has already opened your claim, just bring your claim number and basic details to your appointment.
Report your injury to your employer right away to start your WCB claim.
They’ll complete their Employer’s Report of Injury, and you’ll complete your Worker’s Report.

You can book directly with Avenue Physio – no doctor’s referral is required.
Your physiotherapist will complete and submit the required Physiotherapy Report to WCB Alberta.
Your initial assessment and treatment are always covered.
After your first visit, WCB must approve further treatment before additional sessions continue.
Once approved, WCB typically authorizes up to two treatments per week for four weeks, at no cost to you.
If you need more, your physiotherapist will request an extension directly through WCB.
When you’re ready to return to work, we’ll guide you through a safe transition.
Real experiences from patients who have found relief, improved movement, and lasting confidence through hands-on physiotherapy at Avenue Physio.
